Frequently asked questions
Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers
Find answers to the most common questions about our business setup, visa services, and support solutions in the UAE.
1. What are the different types of business entities available in the UAE?
The UAE offers three main business structures: Mainland Companies (can operate anywhere in the UAE, with 100% foreign ownership in most sectors), Free Zone Companies (offer tax benefits and 100% foreign ownership, but are restricted from direct local trading without a mainland licence), and Offshore Companies (suited for international operations, with no physical UAE presence required).
2. What are the requirements for obtaining a trade license in the UAE?
To obtain a trade licence in the UAE, you will need to select a legal structure, reserve an approved trade name, secure a business address, and submit the required documents — including passport copies, a Memorandum of Association (if applicable), and any sector-specific approvals. Fees and processing times vary by emirate and business activity, but the process typically takes a few days to a few weeks.
3. What are the tax implications for businesses operating in the UAE?
The UAE has a business-friendly tax environment. A 5% VAT applies to most goods and services (mandatory registration for businesses exceeding the turnover threshold), and a 9% Corporate Tax applies to taxable income above AED 375,000 — with a 0% rate on income up to that threshold. There is no personal income tax in the UAE.
4. Are there any specific industry regulations or licenses required in the UAE?
Yes — regulated industries in the UAE require sector-specific licences and approvals. Key examples include healthcare (MOHAP), education (KHDA in Dubai), food & beverage (Dubai Municipality), financial services (Central Bank or Insurance Authority), construction, and tourism (DTCM). Professional activities such as medicine, engineering, and consulting also require dedicated professional licences from the relevant authorities.
